HOTEL KEMPINSKI ADLON
🏨The traditional Adlon Kempinski Hotel, one of the most luxurious hotels in Germany, was restored in the 1990s to be as true to the original as possible and is situated right next to the Brandenburg Gate.
🚉There is a suburban railway station right in front of the Hotel Adlon. There is also a tunnel leading towards ‘Potsdamer Platz’ directly in front of the corner of Hotel Adlon/Pariser Platz, which is particularly inconvenient as it is curved and sloped. Consequently, periodic irregularities known as corrugations and waves develop on the rails. These are responsible for the intense vibration and structure-borne noise. The hotel management had requested that vibrational emissions such as shocks, structure-borne noise, and secondary airborne sound should be neither noticeable nor audible, particularly in the suites along ‘Unter den Linden’ and at ‘Pariser Platz’. 🛏️
💡As a measure to reduce the transmission of vibrations and structure-borne noise from rail traffic into the building, a horizontal building joint was installed below the ceiling above the first basement level along ‘Unter den Linden’ and at a building depth of approx. 15 m in the direction of ‘Behrensstraße’. The Cipremont elastomer bearing was installed here to provide the necessary elastic decoupling. 🎉Control measurements after 10 years confirmed that the vibration and structure-borne noise protection measures implemented at the Hotel Adlon are still fully effective. The vibrations caused by commuter rail traffic do not appear to make any difference.
